How to build your online properties properly for your local business. You need to have an online property you own and can call your asset.
It is important to be on all social media platforms and continue to produce content to engage your viewers. But you should not stop there. Remember, you do not own your profiles and pages on all these platforms. The platforms own them. You do not own your Facebook profile. You do not own your Instagram account. You need to have a great website that you control and own. You need to lead all your viewers on all the platforms to your website. Your website is your online hub of all your activity. You can show your twitter and facebook feeds. You can show all your pictures that are being posted on Instagram. You can offer some free special content in exchange for an email. This way you can build your email list. So with all this it would make sense to own your website. This means you can access it any time, make changes, do testing and control every aspect of it. You also want it to be on a website platform that is user friendly, universal, and functional. You do NOT want it to be on a platform that someone else owns, that you have to request changes be made, is not universal and easy to use and you do not control. What if you stopped paying for that private platform does all of your hard work go away? Even if you fire your marketing company you should still be able to continue to use and update your website. Do not get fooled into using someone elses platform that you cannot control. It does not make sense.
You have to have an asset that you own and control. You have to be able to continue to grow your online presence no matter who is helping you with your marketing. You do not want to put in a bunch of work to have it pulled away from you when you change your marketing strategies.
